Congratulations, you finally made the leap and bought a small house! Now all you have to do is decorate it. Decorating a small house is not difficult. There are, however, a few unique considerations to keep in mind.
We have explained them below. Read them over to make a small house that is as functional and aesthetically beautiful.
First set the function
In a small house there is so little room to work that it is especially easy to confuse your design. If you have too many items in that small amount of square footage, it can cause things to become messy quickly. There is a risk that you will lose your design in the middle of everything. With that in mind, you must take extra steps to ensure that your intention remains clear. You can do that by first placing function in your design.
When we say "put function first", we mean "let furniture carry the room." While each room needs aesthetic touch, they need to be seated in a backseat for essential items such as a couch, table or bed frame. Put it in its place first. In an ideal world, the goal of every single functional area of your home will be clear at a glance.
See the image above for an example of what we mean. Notice how very small it is. But thanks to the furniture and visual directions in the direction, you can clearly say that there must be a workspace that is separate from the main room.
Be creative with storage
The biggest challenge when it comes to setting up a small house is finding sufficient storage space. Although you are undoubtedly displaced before you go inside, there are probably many things that you will have to find a home for. While standard storage options such as cabinets and cabinets will undoubtedly be necessary, you will need to be a bit creative and have to include storage options in unexpected places.
To do this, go over every inch of your small house with storage in mind. Challenge yourself to come up with a way to add storage anywhere, whether it's adding sub-assembled storage space to an existing piece of furniture or more racks. You do not have to use all your ideas, but the chances are that you will be happy with any added functionality.
Choose items that do double work
Because you only have a limited number of items to work with in a small house, you have to choose them carefully. Here you have to focus on what kind of value they add to the space. Is it functional value? Is it aesthetic value? Or is it both? Ideally, when you design a small house, each piece that you bring to your home will both offer.
As for how you can do this, it is about daring with style. Choose items with bold colors, patterns and textures.
Do not forget accessories
Finally, we know that when you live in a small house, you can spend so much time finding how to make the space work for you that you completely forget about the traditional design elements. However, we are here to remind you that they are important – and accessories can help. After all, you bring your personality into space and let him feel like home.
Do not be afraid to add a design element that only adds aesthetic value to the space. Your decorative device may consist of one of the following parts:
- Throw pillows and blankets
- Art on the wall and mirrors
- Decorative bowls and trays
- Book coffee table
- Photo frames
- Flowers and vases
