Is It The Best Bed-In-A-Box Option

Did you know that we spend about a third of our lives asleep? With such numbers, it is no surprise that most of us want to invest in a mattress that is comfortable and yet supportive. Affordability must however also be a concern. That is where the bed-in-a-box mattress craziness – and the Allswell – comes into play.

I have previously had a bed-in-a-box and, to be honest, I was not impressed. So when Allswell contacted me about the possibility to try out their offer of namesakes, I seized the opportunity. I wanted to see for once and for all whether these budget options are worth it or whether it is better to simply keep your money for the real work.

Here is how it went:

What is Allswell?

Allswell is a design-oriented house brand under the helm of Walmart. This online store is intended as a one-stop-shop for all your bedding. In addition to the mattresses we discuss in this article, Allswell also offers various bedding collections, all designed by lifestyle experts such as HGTV host Genevieve Gorder. Moreover, they are completely Instagram worthy.

But apart from the aesthetics, Allswell is focused on providing quality sleep products at a fraction of the normal price. The mission of the brand says it all: "We believe that a luxurious sleeping experience should not be a luxury award."

Your Allswell purchase options

The Allswell line has undergone some changes since the beginning in February 2018. From now on they offer two different options: the Allswell and the Allswell Luxe Hybrid. Here are some specifications for each model:

The Allswell

  • $ 245 – $ 420 depending on the size
  • 10 "thick
  • Hybrid foam and spiral technology
  • High-quality memory foams
  • Individually wrapped coils
  • CertiPUR-US® certified foams

The Allswell Luxe Hybrid

  • $ 295 – $ 745, depending on the size
  • 12 "thick
  • Hybrid foam and spiral technology
  • High-quality memory foams
  • Individually wrapped coils
  • CertiPUR-US® certified foams
  • Built-in plush topper
  • Cool-to-touch top layer

It is worth noting that both Allswell offers come with a trial period of 100 nights and a limited warranty of 10 years, so if you are skeptical about buying a bed-in-a-box, the company has your back.

The Allswell setting process

For my assessment, I received the standard Allswell option. But whatever product you ultimately choose, Allswell is committed to making the set-up process as simple as possible.

For $ 99, the company offers a "White Glove Service & # 39 ;," meaning that they send someone to your home to set up the mattress for you. If you choose to waive your right to the 100-night trial period, they will also remove your old mattress for free. However, if you want to stick to your trial period, they will still provide an extra $ 49 for your old mattress.

Normally I am totally for convenience services like this, but this time I wanted to give you a fair idea of what the installation might look like, so I logged out and chose to set up my own mattress.

The package

Within a few days after ordering, a box arrived at my door that looked like this:

box

The Allswell comes in a neat box.

If you can not read it on the image above, the box will be displayed with a warning.

warning

The warning is true. It is heavier than it seems.

It says: "BE CAREFUL: I am heavier than I look." The warning is true. This fool is heavy.

I am not very strong and I had two people who helped me to go up this staircase to my room and it was not easy. I would say that you need at least two people to move it. Otherwise it may be worth investing in the service "White Glove".

The set-up

As soon as we had it up, the next step was to see what was in the box.

tube

The mattress is all packed in a tube.

The mattress is packaged in a small vacuum-sealed tube like this.

An interesting aspect of my experience was that the mattress was the only one in the box. There were no instructions or anything else.

When doing research for this article, I understand that other reviewers have also received instructions and a cutting tool designed to help you open the package without accidentally poking the mattress into it. I did not see something like this in my box, but it could have been a fluke.

Fortunately, I was able to cut the packaging perfectly with scissors and there were no puncture injuries. As soon as you deny the packaging, this happens:

Open

The mattress starts to blow up as soon as you open it.

The mattress started to blow up as soon as it was sealed.

When I read the instructions online later – again, there were no instructions in the box – I learned that I should have placed the tube in the middle of my bed frame before I denied it. I imagine that this would have made positioning the mattress even easier, but we were able to solve it without too many problems.

When everything is ready, it looks like this:

The waiting time

I have had bed-in-a-box mattresses before, so I knew they usually need some time to fully inflate before you can sleep on them. I suspected that the Allswell would work the same way, so I did a little bit online.

I was right. Allswell website states that the mattress should be fully inflated within a few minutes of opening, but that the process can take up to 48 hours.

In the end, I chose to wait for the full 48 hours before going to sleep on the mattress – and I was glad I did.

blown up

The Allswell, completely blown up.

Hopefully you can see the difference between this picture and the above, but I would say that the mattress was inflated at least two centimeters during the two days that I let him get up.

From there it was just a matter of putting on sheets and getting ready to go to bed.

The Allswell sleeping experience

For my assessment, I decided to divide my mattress experience into a few, often tested, categories. They are:

Firmness and feeling

The Allswell is a hybrid memory foam mattress and certainly sleeps like one. At 4 & # 39; 11 "and 104 lbs, I am smaller than average, but I still fell into the mattress so much that I felt cradled by it, for me it is on the softer side of the strength scale, but I still have never had a mattress with memory foam, so take that with a grain of salt. That said, I had no problems sleeping on the mattress and after about a week I got used to the feeling of the foam topper.

I am a chronic stomach bomber, which is probably the reason why I prefer a firmer mattress, but in an attempt to give you a thorough assessment, I have made a point of sleeping in a few different positions.

Lateral sleepers, whose placement is particularly rough on the joints, will be pleased to know that the Allswell provides more than enough support for your hips, knees and shoulders. I have a tendency to have back pain when I spend the night at my side, and I have not done this especially this time. Sleepers on the other hand must know that while you feel cradled by the mattress, I have not experienced that unkempt feeling that sometimes happens when I sleep on a super soft mattress.

Movement isolation

Motion isolation refers to the degree to which you can feel the movements of your partner from the other side of the bed. Ideally, a mattress will properly isolate the movement and your sleep will not be disturbed if your partner gets up in the middle of the night.

Fortunately, the new person I was chatting with was so friendly to come by and help me test the Allswell. All in all it did very well. I could not feel any small movements, like no weight at all, and the positional changes could only feel light. I was even able to get out of bed without stirring.

Edge support

I feel that the edge support test is tailor-made for me. This is essentially an evaluation of how well the mattress springs back after you have put your full weight on the edges. I usually sleep on the edge of my mattress and I sit on it most of the morning to dress. Obviously the edge support of my mattress gets a workout.

Unfortunately, I started to notice a little bit obliquely in the area where I put the bulk of my body weight down. It may just be my mattress, but if your mattress edges also cost a lot of effort, you might want to use a mattress with more reinforcement.

Heat preservation

I am one of those people who is that always cold, so I'm probably not the best person to talk about heat storage. That said, I had no problems with feeling warm in the middle of the night. However, if you prefer to cool while you sleep, you may want to look into the Luxury Hybrid model. It comes with a cool-to-the-touch top layer that ensures better air flow.

Off-gasification

Gassing, for those who do not know, is an industry term for a certain smell that is sometimes an unpleasant side effect of bed-in-a-box mattresses. It comes from the way the foam is made, how long it is to be cured and how long it is in the package. Fortunately, I had no problem with a smell, especially after I had left the mattress for two days before using it. For those who do, the odor should disappear within a few days.

Durability

Since the Allswell has only been on the market for a year and I have had my model for only a few weeks, it is hard to guess how well the mattress will last in the long run. That said, except for the spot on the edge of the mattress, I have not seen initial problems since I got my mattress.

everything is good

The Allswell is an above average mattress option, especially for the price. Image: Allswell

it comes down to

All in all, the Allswell is an above average mattress option, especially when you take the price into account. It performed well in almost all areas that I tested. Although it is a bit soft for me, I will keep it personal. It really changed my negative opinion about bed-in-a-box mattresses. I would recommend it to anyone who is on the market.
